OPENING SEQUENCES ANALYSIS

ANALYSE:

1 – Use of music and soundtrack > how does it develop the narrative

2 – How is meaning created?

3 – Are we left challenged?

MOMENTO;

1 – The music sounds sad, as if the character is remembering something

2 – We are shown images of various people through Polaroid pictures > the character is remembering something/someone OR something he did

3 – We are left challenged as we don’t understand what is happening – we want to know why he’s just shot someone and why he has pictures of people. Could the pictures be his victims?

FALLING DOWN;

1 – Music seems contrapuntal > sinister > as if we aren’t being told something

2 – First shown ECU of his mouth and sweat dripping down his face > he’s agitated and seems like he’s about to do something (angry)

    - We are shown images of stickers on people’s cars e.g. “freedom” and “he died” > this shows he feels trapped? Wants to kill himself?

3 – We are left challenged as we do not understand why he is feeling like this, it seems to be the result of the traffic jam however it is unlikely to be due to this.

ANALYSE:

AMELIE

1 – Close up of baby > new life

2 – Mainly about bringing in a new life and may be talking about parents

3 – Reel of paper people > shows unity so maybe something to do with a family/close people.

    - Man rubbed his name out of book > he’s going to kill himself? As one person dies a new life is born…

    - doing things on her own > isolated/abandoned?

    - playing with coin when is reads producer – playing with glass when it says music > images related to credits.

BRIDGET JONES

1 – Production companies > unlike independent films

2 – Music is old and was produced before the film, therefore is being reused

3 – When it says Renee Zelwegger there is a heart and arrow – suggesting love/love struck. Hugh Grant there is a devils fork – suggesting he is like the devil and going to mess up things. Colin Firth with a heart - suggesting he is the person she is going to fall in love with.
